15 Things You Can Relate To If You Belong To A Punjabi Family

1) The Love for food from lassi to different chutneys, you'll find any and everything in a Punjabi house. Not only we love to eat, we also love to make people eat! "Arre, aapne toh kuch liya hi nahi, thod aaur lijiye."

2) We are not fat, we just belong to a khatipeeti family. No matter how fat we get, and we really don't care. That belly is a symbol of our love for food.

3) We can dance anytime, anywhere with anyone. Yes, we can. Sometimes, we don't even need the music to turn us on. We are just so awesome!
4) We all have a kaku, bittu, babbu, happy in our family sometimes even more than one, like one kaku Bhaiya, one kaku Chachu, one kaku mamu and so on.

5) We are found everywhere in the world. Aaloo, pyaaz aur Punjabi duniya ke har kone mein paaye jaate hai!

6) We are not loud; we just want everyone to listen to us. But, trust me, we don't do this purposely. We even try not to, but whispering is just not our cup of tea.

7) We take the phrase“laughing increases your blood supply” seriously. We can laugh anywhere anytime. Sometimes even at places we are not supposed to. But, we don't like laughing alone, so we'll make you laugh too.

8) You can miss a Shah Rukh Khan event but not a Punjabi wedding. I bet you've attended one and you agree!

9) Even our language is too cute! It is like a cherry on the cake. Just listen to someone talking in Punjabi and see how your heart melts. PS: Not valid in situations of arguments, fights, etc.

10) We love talking. Who doesn't? C'mon! Being silent is just too boring!

11) We laugh at our own jokes. Obviously, if no one else does, someone needs to do it. We can even laugh at our own self, we are that cool.

12) We all have a beeji, bade papa, badi mummy whom we love more than everything. They are the coolest members of the family. They'll listen to you, allow you to do anything and even do the craziest shit with you. But, when they get angry, its time to run for your lives.

13) We all have detective aunties in our families. "You know kya? Mr. Sharma ke bete ka affair Mr. Gupta ki beti ke saath chal raha hai!" "Beta, who was the girl/guy you were roaming with? haan haan? Bolo bolo?" They know everything!

14) We like to show off but in a subtle way. "Oh, my daughter/son got 96% in her boards." "I'm planning to buy a new BMW but I don't know if it’s good enough." We even wait for people to notice our new bag, watch, wallet, earring, shoe, tie, and everything possible so that we can give a little detail. But, who doesn't like to show off?

15) No matter how annoying we get, you still love us. Don't you?

Plan A Quick Road Trip From College With These Tips

Pick a hill station close by – it ll help you break the rut, the weather will be awesome, you can have some kickass fun climbing, sightseeing, snuggling (with your better half) and you’ll get a change in terms of pace. Here are some tips to help you plan…
To start with,
Pick out the set of friends you want to go with.

Discuss the kind of location you want to visit and on which days – pick the dates, pick the people and then pick the location
The best time would be a long weekend but most places may be booked or expensive then so try picking the unconventional places on a long weekend!
Pick friends who share similar mindsets – you don’t want to be stuck with cribbing, crying, sulky or whiny ones who may end up ruining your vacation.

1. Set a budget

Since all your planning will revolve around your spending capacity, fix an all-inclusive budget. You’ll need to bear the costs related to travelling, food, shopping – and entertainment! Keep your estimate a little high so even if you spend a little more, it won’t burn a hole in your pocket at the last minute.
2. Chalk out a plan

Decide the place, the mode of transport and how you would want to accommodate yourself.A place that offers basic amenities would work - since you will be on the move! Also, read more about the place, get a map to know the routes. Check out the places to eat, see and shop!
3. Book As Early As Possible

Manage your bookings in advance. Also, when you have a confirmed booking, you feel secure and save time on last minute booking hassles. Sharing a room will also save a few bucks so don’t be a laad-saheb or maharani and book an individual room. If you’re going in someone else’s bike or car, ensure that you split the fuel bills!
4. Packing essentials
Pack all the must-haves, personal hygiene items and routine wear, an extra set of clothes and shoes. A multi-purpose knife and a first-aid kit are necessary items in case of an emergency. Keep a stock of plastic bags to throw away garbage if you’re road tripping so that you don’t litter and ensure that you carry enough snacks to munch and drinking water to avoid hunger pangs. And if you run out of stock - You can always stop en route if you’re road tripping. One very important piece of advice if you’re road tripping – Don’t ever Drink and Drive – Its not worth the risk to your life, plus you’re technically not allowed to! And don’t let your older friends do it either. (Drinking and driving helps no one)
5. Shop smartly

Use cash for all purchases. This will curb any additional spending. Every item in the local market may lure you but before making a decision to buy, you should ask yourself whether it’s really worth your money. Pick up some gifts for people back home if you have some extra money – it will bring a smile to their face, that you thought of them while on vacation.

Travelling is about seeing a new place, meeting new people, experiencing the adventure and connecting with nature or your surroundings. Once you reach your dream destination, enjoy the moment.

Tips For Surviving Hostel Life

Hostel life...don't we all crave for it. We all eagerly wait to join the hostel and start enjoying life. But only if living in hostel were that easy!It never was and will never be, but that does not mean you cannot enjoy it.

Just follow some rules or more precisely exercise some caution and you will find that hostel life is not only exciting and thrilling, but will be one of the best learning experiences. Here’s a crash course in surviving hostel life:

1)      Distance- I know you are all thrilled about having a room mate and can't wait to share everything with him/her but always remember a bit of distance does no harm. In fact on the contrary, it will only help you. Maintaining distance helps in reducing conflicts, which will be unbearably many.

2)      Rumors / gossip - This is something that you cannot escape. You will get to hear new and nearly impossible stories about yourself but never lose your cool. Never overreact and most importantly never believe what others say. Also never fuel any rumor about others.

3)      Money- This is one soft corner for all and one touchy topic. Always keep your accounts clear with everyone. Don't take money you cannot return. Money can create many problems among friends. Most importantly, never disclose your atm pin password to anyone. It might get “borrowed.”

Pro tip: If anyone asks to borrow Rs. 5 / 10 or anything in low denominations, always lend them Rs. 100. It’s easier to ask for Rs. 100 than to keep track of all the Rs. 10 / 20 / 30 you’ve lent someone.

4)      Studies- In all this fun and frolic, studies take a back seat. Always remember why you have joined the college. Enjoy college but keep your grades. It will also help you to earn some extra bucks from your parents.

5)      Sharing-  Sharing is caring but know the limits of sharing. Always keep boundaries both while giving and taking. Don’t go overboard by taking things without asking people. The rule is to be kind but not needy.

6)      Get used to the noise -  There will always be someone talking aloud, playing music on high volume, screaming on the phone. It’s most irritating when you all you want is some quiet “Me” time. Hostels can never be quiet. Be patient and you’ll soon get used to the noise.

These are the basic 6 rules for surviving in hostel. But your stay in hostel will teach you many more lessons. Hostel life is a roller coaster ride...enjoy this ride and the friend’s you make here!

Imagine your girlfriend’s father talking to you like this – Godfather style? Would you accept his daughter’s hand in proposal?

And if you say no, this is probably what the response would be from in King Leonidas style, from the movie 300

oh ho….

And then you’ll probably end up talking like this….

or like this

And finally you’ll tell papaji…

10 Ways Indian’s Are Unique

Indian’s can be recognized by the way they think and behave ANYWHERE in the world! Here are 10 unique idiosyncrasiesof Indian’s…
1. When looking for a girl friend / wife…there is only one rule - even if the guy is not “FAIR AND HANDSOME,” the girl must always be “FAIR AND LOVELY!”

2. Pick-ups and drops to the airport or railway station OR long bus journeys involve carting the whole family.
A minimum of two people for everyone received. And if you’re dropping / picking someone up from an international flight, then pretty much the whole family and the “aartikithaali” goes to the airport. Remember the airport scene from Hum Tum in which KirronKher is dropping Rani to the airport?

3. Street food is not an adventure for us. It’s a part and parcel of our daily life.
In fact, we use it to test the strength of our digestive system from time to time.

4. We travel in “packs” and are comfortable with it.
In fact, overcrowding is our national MOTTO… Why do you think we have a population of 1.2 billion that’s still growing?

5. EveryIndian girl has 3 types of brothers
The Real brother, the Cousin brother and the Rakhee brother. And we take gifts from all of them!

6. If we live away from home and don’t call Mom daily, she’ll freak out and call every friend’s whose number she has and make sure we are alive.

7. We don’t need GPS… our paanwala, rick shaw- wala, taxi-wala network is better than Apple maps or Google maps. And they’ll give you tips as well

8. Occasions like marriage, the many many festivals we have, meeting relatives or close family friends call for blessings – In the form of GIFTS!

9. However old we get, our parents will still need to know every detail of our schedule. DAILY! Sometimes they’ll even call ten times a day to know….

10. The first thing we do when the remote’s battery dies is bang it or slap the shit out of it, to make it work!

But there’s still no denying we Indians are the BEST!
